| A B C's of Spiritual Birth
Speaking to Nicodemus, a sincere and very religious man, Jesus
said, "I
tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he
is born
again." (John 3:3)
In all of Jesus' teaching, He made it clear that without spiritual
rebirth it is impossible to receive eternal life. Here are the ABC's
that will help you understand and experience a right relationship with
God and know that you have eternal life.
A. You must Agree
God's Word tells us, "All have sinned and fall short of the
glory of
God." (Romans 3:23)
Have you come to the point now where you accept personal
responsibility for your own sin and agree with God's assessment
of you?
B. You must Believe
"Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever
rejects the
Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him." (John
3:36)
Have you come to the point in your life now that you realize that Jesus
Christ's death on the cross is the only means by which you can come
to
God? His bloodshed is the sacrifice that God accepts and through
your
believing on the Son, you can have eternal life!
C. You must Confess
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive
us our
sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9)
Through an act of confession (your expression of sorrow for past
sins) and
repentance (a desire to turn away from the old to a new life) you
come
to God.
The promise is that as we confess, He is faithful—He will
forgive—He
accepts us as His children.
"Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his
name, he gave
the right to become children of God." (1 John 1:12)
If this makes sense to you and you'd like to receive Jesus into
your
heart and life, pray right now. If a written
prayer helps you, here's one for you.
"Dear Lord Jesus,
I know I am a sinner. I believe you died for my sins. Right now,
I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life. I receive
you as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me. Amen."
If you just prayed that prayer and really meant it, Jesus Christ
has now
taken residence in your heart! Not only that, but He has forgiven
you
of all your sin. Remember the Bible tells us, "If we confess
our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and purify us from
all
unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
God also promises, "As far as the east is from the west, so far
has He removed our transgressions from us." (Psalms 103:12) Your
decision to receive Christ also means that you are now going to
Heaven one day!
That's a lot to be thankful for! So take some practical
steps to grow strong spiritually: read the Bible, pray, and seek
out a
church. Welcome to the life-long journey of following Christ!!
