Our foundational beliefs
We believe that:
- There is one God-revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- The Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by full inspiration,
contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.
- Every person is born with a fallen nature, and is, therefore,
inclined to evil continually.
- Those who never come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ are hopelessly
and eternally lost.
- The death of Jesus Christ on earth was necessary for the whole human race
as the sacrifice for sins; and whoever repents and believes on
the Lord Jesus Christ is justified, regenerated, adopted and saved
from the dominion of sin.
- Believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration,
through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
- The Church is a community that confesses Jesus Christ as Lord,
the covenant people of God made new in Christ, the Body of Christ
called together by the Holy Spirit through the Word.
- Our Lord will return and the dead will be raised. The final
judgment will take place.
- Water baptism and the Lord's Supper are sacraments to be
celebrated by the Church.
- The Bible doctrine of divine healing is to be taken seriously
for today.
A brief history...
In 1919 the little town of Kirkland served as a ferry terminal
on the eastern shore of Lake Washington. The community was comprised
of a few small businesses and family dwellings.
Surrounded by small farms and forest, a wagon road ran out of town
and up Rose Hill. On an October morning a group of people came together
to form a church, and thus our first name, Rose Hill Church of the
Nazarene.
In the 50's the church on Rose Hill was overflowing and plans to
move began. The entire congregation went to prayer. Work begun at
our current location in June 1953. It started with $400 in the bank
and a bulldozer stuck in the mud!
Today, the City of Kirkland alone has a population of 43,720 with
similar growth in the surrounding cities, now called the Eastside.
Today...
Who we are: Kirkland Church of the Nazarene (KCN)
is comprised of 150+ families. We are an inter-generational and
diverse group
benefiting from the wisdom of our Senior Citizens and enlivened
by our ever-growing nursery. In between you'll find every age represented,
from all walks of life. We come from all directions, Everett to
Auburn, Seattle to the Sammamish plateau. We are drawn together
by our desire to know and serve God. Along the way, we get to know
and value one another. We warmly welcome new attendees.
The Kirkland Church is denominationally connected to the Church
of the Nazarene however we are a community centered home for followers
of Jesus who come from a variety of backgrounds. Our Chinese
Cantonese Church is active with its own Pastor and we have a Spanish
Church.
What we do: We come together in a host of ways:
home fellowship groups, musicals, Bible studies, prayer groups,
Women's and Men's Ministry events, athletic events, exciting age
level ministries, retreats and camps. We go to Mariners' games, have
Easter egg hunts, always finding ways to enjoy life, one another and
our children.
How we help: We have a motto around KCN: "Everyone
a Minister." We teach our people that everyone is called into
ministry so they should find a way to minister—and most do.
Behind the scenes or on the stage; on site or off; caring for people
or facilities; assisting newcomers, children or old timers. We do everything
we can to let people know this church can be their home, and we can
be family to them. We're all about people touching people with the love of
Jesus.
Where we help: We reach out to people through
feeding needy teenagers at the Kirkland Teen Center. We participate
in Kirkland's interfaith ministry (KITH) helping people with transitional
housing, counseling, and hot meals. We minister in a local nursing
home. We began working with Love, Inc. as we endeavor
to respond to community needs on the Eastside. We minister through our growing
Chinese Church under the leadership of Pastor Ming. Each
year we send a team of people somewhere in the world to build a
church. We've been to Haiti, Trinidad, Mexico, Venezuela, Romania,
Mozambique and Guatemala. And our teen ministry, Planet Youth,
sends mission teams out every year. |
